There is a certain technique called cold reading. This is used by many "mind readers" and in horoscopes. Basically, cold reading is when statements are used that can be applied to the general public. Usually these are positive remarks because it is human nature to believe that they themselves are a "good" person or just. When remarks are made that doesn't relate to the person reading the horoscopes, they generally don't stress on it. However, when something is able to be related, people go "OMG that is soooo me". Many people use this type of thing. If you know Derren Brown, you know what I'm talking about. It is quite simple to tell you the truth. Here is an example:

Some of your aspirations tend to be pretty unrealistic. At times you are extroverted, affable, sociable, while at other times you are introverted, wary and reserved. You have found it unwise to be too frank in revealing yourself to others. You pride yourself on being an independent thinker and do not accept others' opinions without satisfactory proof. You prefer a certain amount of change and variety, and become dissatisfied when hemmed in by restrictions and limitations. At times you have serious doubts as to whether you have made the right decision or done the right thing. Disciplined and controlled on the outside, you tend to be worrisome and insecure on the inside.

Your sexual adjustment has presented some problems for you. While you have some personality weaknesses, you are generally able to compensate for them. You have a great deal of unused capacity which you have not turned to your advantage. You have a tendency to be critical of yourself. You have a strong need for other people to like you and for them to admire you.

Firstly, just because we cannot explain a phenomenon does not mean it is untrue or does not occur.
.
Secondly, for sceptics, no proof is enough.
.
The ones who refuse to believe in astrology are the ones who try to explain it by "known" science; now come on, science that we know has existed only for a few hundred years, astrlology has been practised for many thousand years.
.
The readings you see in papers and mags are general guides only and cannot be accurate for a large population. If you are interested in your personal reading (which in no way you can get from a newspaper or a mag) you should get the horoscope personally checked by an experienced astrologer. I can quote here many, many details accurately quoted by astrologers that some my relatives have visited. To quote one, an astrologer once calculated, only on seeing the horoscope chart and not the actual person it belongs to, that the owner of the horoscope must be suffering from a rare, but serious medical condition (he even pinpointed the affected part of the body) which was 100% correct. There is no way the astrologer could have known it. I also know of an incident where the horoscope of dead person was taken for a reading. The experienced astrologer refused to go ahead with the reading once he did come initial calculations with the chart and found out the owner of the chart cannot be alive at that time of the reading.
There are many other stories.
.
Now the ones who argue with this fact are simply refusing to face up to the reality that most of the things and phenomia in the universe cannot be explained by the science that we know. Just because we cannot prove something (but still exist or happens) we can't claim it is untrue. It just proves we are yet to learn an awful lot of things in the universe.
.
I would like to kindly ask the sceptics to obtain a personalised reading for yourself and then to talk.
.
Finally, if you want to disprove something, you should fully learn it first. Simply because we can't explain it or grasp it does not mean it is untrue.

Real horoscopes depend on where the planets, moon, sun etc.. where on the day of your birth, which is different every year. So it makes it hard to get an accurate reading from a generalised horoscope eg free ones off the net, papers and mags. True star sign readings would be personal, depending on how good the astronomer is. But nothing is a 100% accurate as you are not just a star sign.

I suppose that it would really be a matter of perspective and chance. Some things can actually be predicted by "heavenly bodies" but I think that some people take it to far.
Divination is an ancient practice, with many forms. It seems to hold some truth time and again, but ultimately, rellying on it on a daily basis is simply foolish, as no one can fully predict everything that will ever happen to you. Forks in the road, sure, but not every pebble.
Another thing to consider is that sometimes, when people go to see an astrologer, the answer they are looking for was already there. Sometimes we just need that extra input, and it just clicks....

I geuss, in sumation, that it is up to you to decide. Give it a shot... Have fun with it......

Good Luck

Easy way to answer this is with maths.

There's over 60 million people in the UK and 12 star signs.
This means that by average, there are 5 million people to each star sign.

If it says on the net: Pisces; you will reach new heights today; apart from being extremely vague, it's bound to apply to a few people in the worst case scenario, also, people who want to believe will try to rationalise what is said, so that it will apply to them, they will look for some obscure way of linking it, and making it associate to their life.

At the end of the day, it's like rolling a 12 sided dice, and saying that the number will be somewhere between 1 and 12, of course I'm going to be right, but you're not going to think I have psychic powers, I'm just generalising, which is what these articles do.

No.
The positions of the stars and planets have absolutely nothing to do with anything in your life in any way.
The few times horoscopes have been put to actual scientific tests (most scientists don't bother to test because they already know it's ridiculous), they have failed miserably. A horoscope's "predictions" do no better than chance at predicting anything. In other words -- you'd get results just as accurate by flipping a coin :)

No, but horoscopes give you ideas, possibilities and encouragement which should be a rich source of personal growth and fun. However, there are other ways of doing the same thing like reading, traveling talking to new friends and so on.
Reading regularly, and about different subjects is my favorite.
Read a novel, magazines, newspaper, historical fiction and so on can be ultimately stimulating to the brain and imagination.
The brain is constantly working toward making new connections which facilitates understanding and personal growth.
Great question!

It depends on what you believe. If you believe in a horoscope, it will most likely come true because you believe in it. You make what happens to you happen most of the time.

But the whole zodiac thing is kind of messed up because of the tilt of the earth. You aren't really born under what your birthday says you are anymore.

Good question well there is two types of these futre readings sri lanka and india really believes in this numerology stuff but not so much of the zodiac signs and what you need to know that they are true well i will give you a secret out the first date say ur birthday is on th 16 of july 2003 ok so your personality number is 1+6 equals 7 ok thats your personality number the second number its not going to tell ur future its just a rough scratch of your life what YOUR going to do in your life not what is in store for you in the future so this is how u find the second number 2+0+0+3 you take that number which is 5 then you add it with your day so 5+16which equals to 21 and then you take 21 and then you add it with your month so if its july that means 21+7 which eqauals to 28 and then its 8+2 which equals to 10 so its 1 so your personality number is 7 and your life number is 1 its really real its based on the stars too in a way but thats how they get zodiac signs too its not FAKE !!!ITS SCIENCE AND SCIENCE IS NOT FAKE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! other things such as azodiac i dont believe so much in but in numerology its real .REad MORE ABOUT CONSTELLATIONS its science you learn about the patterens then you can see why stars are connected with numerology and yea stars or planets die and reform but theres a way that stars are a connected with this .so if your friends personality is say 2 if they were born on the 11 oranything that adds to two that means that they achieve things without haveing money come into it . they have a tiny bit of greedyness in them .but my point is that this is not a lie this is INDIVIUAL EVALUATION unlike zodiac signs it doesnt have half the population or quater of it with the same zodiac sign!!!now this doesnt mean i dont believe in zodiac signs i am just sayin that and this is my conclusion that NUMEROLOGY IS MORE OF AN ACURATE OF INDIVUAL CHARTERISTICS.AND I HOPE I CONVINCED YOU WITH MY THEORY AND YOUR QUESTION WAS VERY GOOD AND I WOULD LIKE TO SUGGEST GO TO GOOGLE AND TYPE IN NUMEROLOGY AND THERE ARE SOME THINGS BASED ON IT AND I TAKE MOST OF MY INFORMATION FROM THE LIBRARY SO READ A LOT OF BOOKS ON NUMEROLOGY AND I HOPE MY ANSWER ISNT THAT L ONG AND THANK YOU FOR GIVING ME THE OPPORTUNITY TO WRITE THIS TO YOU .THANKS HOPE MY OPINION HELPS!!!

probably not anymore accurate than say,...psychology for predicting human behaviour.

look it's a system to understand what motivates people to do what they do or don't do as the case may be.

what areas they have ease or difficultly expressing themselves.

take it or leave it.
I find it explains a lot of human behaviour as well as or better than psychology does.
and it's been around a lot longer.

Jung used it, too.

Meyers-Briggs personality formula is based on the same idea.
