You mean besides the obvious Disneyland and Universal Studios..
Take them to places THEY want to go to: ie: Ask THEM not us.
Arcades, Zoo's, Planatarium, over to Catalina for a special day at the beach, take a hike in the hills or desert, rent bikes (maybe not for the 4 year old),
I took my son on the local Rapid Transit train back and forth for about 3 hours.. he loved it... so its not always what YOU see but how THEY see it.
Pretend you are young again.. where would YOU want to go???
Ok.. thus ends the lesson.. go have a recess......

Note that I have not been here in a few years but...
Go down to the beach in Santa Monica. There's a lot street performers. Some of them are wierd, others do stuff kids like.
It's kind of like a cheap circus.
You can also go to the "Promenade" in Santa Monica. Again more shops, more street performers.
