Women on birth control pills who smoke are at risk for strokes. When you talk to your MD tell her you smoke.

Don't be a statistic.

I'm a smoker and I am on Levlen. They give you these pamphlets that say it increases the risk of heart problems if you are a smoker and especially if you are over a certain age. Like 30 or 40 or something. I'm only 22 and dont smoke all that much. I know i need to quit but i think i'm too young and dont smoke enough for any bad interaction to occur. The smoking is the bad part. I'll quit when i decide to have babies. So untill then i'm going to take my birthcontrol, (which i dont have any bad side effects from) and smoke my Camel lights untill the day i want to start having kids. then i'll stop doing both.

People are so quick to hate on smokers now a days. You already know its bad right? So why do you need to have people tell you the same stuff over and over again. I applaud you for wanting to be responsible about control unwanted pregnancy.

Good luck.

They all carry the increased risk of blood clotting for smokers, sorry. You can take the pill and be a smoker (I did for a long time), particularly if you don't have other risk factors like age, high blood pressure, or known clotting disorders.

None of the physicians I have ever been to have denied me the pill for tobacco use. The risk of throwing a clot, objectively, is still very small.

Don't smoke and take birth control bad idea. If you've had a child you can get an IUD in the office. Some health insurances can pay for this. If you smoke and take birth control you could have blood clots that could cause a stroke or pulmonary embolus, and it greatly increases the risk for cancer. I would definately talk to your OBGYN and find a non hormonal method

just because you're a smoker doesn't mean that you have to be on a certain pill....it's just whatever pill agrees with your body...smoking while on the pill only puts you at risk of blood clots and strokes

you can not take the birth control pill and smoke it can cause you to die and is very unhealthy. if you want to continue to smoke then you can try the depo provera shot. But i wouldn't want to take that if i were you because its very harsh on your body and can cause you to stop your period all together. you will get the shot every three months and you have to go to the docotor to have it done. talk to your docotor.

Anyone you like but you might want to consider giving up the evil weed as preventing pregnancy might end up being the least of your worries.
