As a college tennis player I had this happen a lot when I had to play several matches in a day. Definately pop it immediately. Get a batting glove and cut out the fingers of the glove. This will allow you to feel like you have some "touch" left while hitting the ball. The awkwardness of having the glove on should go away after his warm-up and he'll cut down on the burn feeling on his blister a ton!!!

There are several things you can do. First and foremost, I myself used to cut enough of the edge of the skin to let the pus out, but also let the skin remain. This is important because as the skin dried, it acts as a layer that is not as uncomfortable as not having any skin at all. Again do not rip off the skin.

From here, you can put a thin piece of tape and wrap around it if it is a finger. If the blister is is on the hand, the tape may be a bit bothersome. The mole skin is a thin layer that is supposed to help healing and cut down on the abrasion. The only problem may be that you need more tape to keep the "synthetic" skin on.

The main thing is feeling comfortable with whatever the player uses. Have them go out and warm up with what ever you decide with.

Wrap it with moleskin and then wear a glove over it. Get a smaller gripped racket for the future.

I know it's a little late, but it sounds like the grip is too big for him. Let him try a smaller grip for the future.
And if he ever wins the US Open, then you owe me one.
