Governments lie for the same reasons individuals do: either because the truth will make them look bad, or because they otherwise stand to gain from people believing the falsehood they are promoting. Not only liberals, but people of all political persuasions oppose government statements that are false because it would be pretty asinine to accept things that you know to be false.

Our current administration out and out lies, such as the reason for going to war in Iraq (which we all know that weapons of mass destruction did not exist) and we were not in danger of being bombed into infinity at any moment. Corporations will release false information, such as Enron did, to feather their own nests.
They lied about being bipartisan when they did not allow Democrats for the past six years to participate in any policy making decisions. If anyone did not agree with them they fired them, lied about them and forced them into obscurity if they wanted to continue to exist.
You can fill a book about their deceit.

First of all the government DOES lie and does so more often than most of us want to believe. Boy George has told MANY lies during his time as president - from his atatements of Iran's "weapons of mass destruction" to his claims of innocense in the various CIA and lobbyist scandals. Richard Nixon lied early and often and was done in by his own tapes! The non-ruling party often goes after as you call it "independent research and ACTUAL FACTS" as a way of proving a non-biased position in their attempt to sway popular opinion.

Did I read your question that have never lied before,correct. The best thing I can ask you is when have they ever told the truth. Let's see Iraq had WMD they could walk up to and lay their hands on, Iraq was involved in 9/11, we would be welcomed with cookie ,flowers, and cakes when we got to Iraq. they had mustard gas that they would put in the United States , you'd see a white could that was the gas it woul engulf all of us , we would be killed instantly. need to put that foil paper on your windows, etc. to may lies to have the space to write down.
