In some cases I agree, in others I don't. Dead Man Walking is a good example of the death penalty. The man came to terms with what he did in the end. You saw the faces of the victims right before he died and you understood why. It may not be fair to kill them, but then again many things in life are not fair. Why should we show some mercy when they showed others no mercy? I think the most heinous should be put to death, the ones that kill and enjoy it. The ones that will feel no remorse.

Well if anything the last 24 hours has taught us, by a man being hanged and having a rather quick and painless death (1st vertebrae broken is so quick you don't blink) how is that serving a purpose. Isn't a life time of hard labour in a 6 x 6 cell worse? The death penalty is almost a cop out. Too easy and cheap.

I think anyone who murders...especially a child should be put to death. And my tax dollars should not be used for 500 appeals. And the same law should apply across the US. IT is crap that Susan Smith only got 20 years for strapping her children in car seats and pushing her car into a lake for them to drown. Had she done the same thing in Texas she would have gotten the death plenty...and been put to death already. But she is alive and well living on our money when her children never even got a chance at life. What kind of justice is that? Who speaks for the victims? Our court system is so messed up that no one even thinks about the victims or their families anymore.

no I don't agree.
I don't think any person has the right to take another life (speaking in moral terms)
I also have a problem with the hypocracy of people dressing up in nice clothes and going to a civilized court to decide if someone should die.
I've also about cases where innocent people were released and that more minorities are executed than people of the majority.
there were a few years in US history where there was no death penalty. the people on death row were given parole and had a lower percentage than non-death row inmates to reoffend

It's a tough topic. For any mother that had to witness her child being put to death, she would say disagree. For a loved one that was murdered, the family would say agree. You will receive many different answers on this I'm sure.
If we all went with "An eye for an eye" the world would be blind is what I think.

Depends on what the person did, if they have a record or not, and who the victim was. But I do think we should go back to hangings on the court house yard. That would show some of these people who insist on being stupid and committing these crimes that there ARE consequences to being a criminal.
Also, citizens need to find lawmakers who are willing to toughen up the laws for people who commit crimes, and not make it so easy to be a criminal. And yes, it is easy to be a criminal nowadays.

i dont think they should of hanged him, it is no punishment, a short drop and its over for him. Im sure thats why he looked so calm and unafraid on the gallows, why not make people like him suffer, hard labour for life etc, after all the suffering he caused over the years he gets what he wanted, why ?
