It was Jazz music for the stuff from the sixties and through to the late seventies, and are their any soundtrack albums?

Looking back on IMDB it shows Vince Guaraldi as the main composer of music for charlie brown. Wikipedia says that Guaraldi was a jazz musician, so this may be the guy you're looking for. He also has his on website with discography, there's loads of Charlie Brown on there.

the original composer of the theme (titled "Linus & Lucy") as well as most of the music identified with the Peanuts specials, is Vince Guaraldi. His music is also readily available on CD.
