That depends on how well you maintain your vehicle and how you drive it. A well maintained vehicle does better than a poorly maintained vehicle, doesn't matter if it has a manual or an automatic. But ... if you're hot-rodding, burning rubber, sliding to a stop and all of the other silly stuff you can do easier with a manual transmission ... then you're gas mileage is going to be in the toliet.

Doesn't really make a whole lot of difference these days. Automatic has a bit better resale value. Standard is a bit easier to maintain.

In the past, yes. But automatics have become so efficient, that only outstanding drivers could do better. (Maybe 1 in 10,000)

depend on your driving habits. generally automatic will get better. myself with my truck i get better(1 mpg) with my standard than my automatic work truck. both are the same yr, engine, etc. even the payloads are more or less the same.
