Turnover on pc hardware is like 6 months. Whether you buy now or wait, there will be a price drop or something new coming out. I have that processor and it works great. Just get a motherboard that'll support quad-core so if after a few years your computer isn't as fast as you want it, just get the quad chip. I say get the chip because quad core is already out and they still haven't dropped core 2 duo prices that much yet.

The prices may drop next summer when AMD releases their new chips, assuming these new AMD chips retake the performance lead, meaning Intel has to cut prices to compete (which most likely will happen). But as for in the next 2-3 months, I don't see any reason why there would be a sizeable price drop, the prices have pretty much stabilized, in fact the price on new egg has gone up $8 since I bought mine last month.

Intel just announced the Quad core, that'll drop the price for core 2 duo. I'd stay away from AMD tough.

there is no shortage of suitable motherboards. Your determination will count on your funds extra suitable than something. in the experience that your no longer overclocking there is relatively no cut back on your determination. maximum any board with a P965 or P35 chipset could be completely effective. P35 chipset boards help DDR-3 (some help the two DDR2 and DDR3) it is extra costly at present and doesnt convey alot to the table. P35 chipsets help the 1333FSB (your E6600 demands in basic terms a 1066) bus, so a P35 chipset board could be extra destiny info in case you propose on changing CPU's interior a 365 days. or you may probable be extra helpful off saving your $$$ and getting a respectable servicable P965 board. we've had good stories with Gigabyte's GA-P965-DS3, which isnt too costly, and useful factors good state capacitors for the time of and a beefy VRM layout. yet there are literally dozens of different good applicants
