I find that I used to get interference from other electronic devices if they were too close to the speakers.

Try moving devices like your cell phone, cordless phone, anything magnetic, etc, away from the speakers.

If this doesn't work, try searching on www.dell.com for trouble shooting. There should be better information there!

All of the above answers are pretty good.
Check your Cables First, as in unplug them, then replug them ( sometimes a reboot between any step can help).
Check the device drivers by a roll back, reinstall, or by totally removing the driver, rebooting the system, then see what happens.
Usually I check the card by swapping out a sound card, seeing what happens.
One basic way is totally uninstall the sound card, sometimes it helps if you remove the sound card, reboot, then shutdown ( if you have removed the sound card) replace the sound card, and have your drivers ready, and see what the system detects. If it is a creative card, or related speakers, you can run diagnostics to see what is happening.

You may be able to reinstall the soundcard drivers to correct the issue. Sometimes the dolby channels get messed up and that can cause a popping noise.

You could also search the Dell site for assistance or to download the drivers.

I dunno of a fix but you can tell if its your sound card or your speakers by plugging headphones into your speaker jack and see if those work alright.
