And what about how much he should be eating during the day now that he does not have formula. I am going to ask my doctor all this at his 12 month exam, but i would like to prepare myself. can anyone help?

I started mixing milk in with my sons formula at first half formula and half milk in an 8 oz bottle. Then I would add a little more milk. When he was completely on milk I took the bottle away too. He was 12months old when I gave him the sippy cup. I started giving him the sippy at 6 months for infant juice, so he knew what to do. He hated the milk out of the sippy though, but I toughed it out and when he wanted milk he got it out of a cup, I refused to give him his bottle. He got the idea after about 1 day and a half. I made sure he stayed hydrated but I wasnt going to give up and give him the bottle back.
As far as his eating habbits during the day only you can tell that one. He will tell you when he is hungry. My son ate 3 meals a day and 2 snacks when I took the formula away. His meals were my meals as long as they were healthy meals, when I got fast food he got the toddler meals from gerber.
Good luck with your little one and Happy soon to be Birthday to him!

I gave my son formula up until the very end, but I gave him alittle milk to see how he reacted to it IE; tummy pains diarrhea vomiting
I had to put my son on soy milk for a while .. it is less harsh than milk sugars
I also started him with soft topped sippy cups at night
I would sit their with him a little earlier and watch him drink his milk then put him to bed
During the day I would also give him the soft top sippy cups
(they sell them @ walmart for 1.97 , called nuby )
then as a month or 2 progressed I got a few hard topped sippy cups, for both day and night
then not to long after that I start with safety 1 st tossable sippy cups then every now I would take the top off after some spills and crying he got it
so really for us it took a year, but every kid is diffrent but if you rush and there not ready, it will backfire
as for how much
IMO milk is not the best thing for anybody, they feed cows too much steroids and they do to much to the milk before we get it
taking away good stuff and adding stuff to make up for it
they ( enrich) everything so basically when they take out all the good vitamins trying to kill bacteria ( cause they over heat the milk) they have to try and make up for it so they put certain vitamins back in..but not enough
Sorry had to add my 2 cents

i gave my son his soy milk 1/2 cup
about 1/4 cup of diced fruit and 1/2 baby cereal
oooh and cheerio's he loved cherrio's
i got alot of my info on feeing him from websites
www.gerber.com
as well as

During the day-time hours when your son is awake and not cranky because it's nap-time, start offering him the formula in a "sippy cup" instead of the bottle. As he get more proficient at using the cup, start offering the bottle less and less often. Eventually, you'll wean him off of the bottle and onto the "sippy cup".

Don't take his bottle at 12 months. I work in daycare with toddlers and unless you want to hear constant screaming stall him out for a while. It's already gonna be strange enough getting used to a new type of milk and you want to take his bottle. Give him until about 15 months. They have these great sippy cups at wal mart that look like sippy cups but have rubber nipples like bottles so it is easier for them to suck. They also have some with skinny nipples that are sippy cups as well. Buy one of those first before going to the all plastic sippy cup!

Your doctor will have to check your child's iron levels to determine if he is ready for whole milk. If your child is not using a sippy, you need to start now. I use a sippy all day and a bottle only at night and my son it 9.5mo. The transition should be easy. Your child needs three good meals a day plus a healthy snack.
