Depends on what aspect you're talking about. If it's good psychological horror, you can't beat "The Sixth Sense" . . . it's just too good of a movie, despite it being remembered as the one with the gimmick of the twist.
As for the kind of movie that just left me scared all night long . . . well, "The Ring" and its subsequent movies are just so dang good. I don't care what other people say . . . it freaks me out to no end, plus it's just a good story.
"The Skeleton Key" and "The Eye" and "The Eye 2" (both Cantonese films) were also very good and enjoyable- great stories, each very atmospheric and frightening.

I have always thought the Original "Tales of the Crypt" movie was the scariest especially Psycho Santa Claus with Joan Collins and the Monkey's Paw. I got spooked out alone then I took my friend Leonard to the late show and he was so scared he kept grabbing me and hugging my arm and letting out these
little girlish shrieks and shrills. It was so embarrassing since we were GI's on Army Base in Germany.

The Exorcist. It's on tonight on AMC. The first Halloween is great, too. The original "Howling" is pretty good, too. I like the "Exorcism of Emily Rose".
