They could not have done it sooner. I would have had no problem having the guys that pulled him out of the hole do it right then and there.

While I don't believe killing someone is the answer to social errs, I think that there isn't any other way for civilization to correct or achieve an amicable end to the likes of the atrocities carried out by such a diabolical international figure.
That being said, it's unfortunate that since it was such an international case, that the execution had to be - by default - an international spectacle. This will pose an extremely volatile problem for all concerned around the world, but more especially in Iraq, where the people are struggling to recover from decades of oppression at his hands - as well as the soldiers who are on all sides who are still there. Most of the world views the execution as just - while supporters of Hussein will view it as a murder and therefore Saddam becomes a martyr. How unfortunate.

I believe he was an evil man and did horrible things, therefore I do believe he got what he deserved.
Do I think this will cure the problem? No. Saddam has many supporters and people who trained under him. So the execution got rid of the "Queen Bee" but there's a still a whole hive of ticked off bees.

I'm sickened by watching anyone put to death no matter how bad they were but I feel it is absolutely essential for the worst, well-documented offenders. Does anyone want to see him escape, be restored to power, and waste the lives lost to defend Kuwait and prevent his terrorism from spreading? Most people whose families he killed were delighted at Saddam's execution.
Of course there is a downside to his execution--martyr status, and another excuse to attack innocent people. That pales in comparison to preventing his next rise to power, those who fight thinking he will rise, and those whose only hope in this world is to see justice done.

Yup - it should send a message to the crazy dictators that are big on murdering their own people that they are not above the law.
The ex-Ethopian strong man has been sentenced to death as well, but he's hiding out in Zimbabwe.
