my dog wipes his backside on the floor, whether it be carpet or lino or wood, or even over the metal bars where the doors are,, doesnt seem to hurt him though.
what is up with that, luckily he spends all day cleaning his rear-end, so its not messy, and very funny to watch, he drags his body with his two front paws perched on his bottom, with both back legs in the air, but seriosly, what is up with that????

It's called, " scooting " and he's probably doing it because his anal glands might be impacted.

It's not a sign of worms. It means that he needs his anal glands expressed. Most dogs naturally express their glands when they defecate, but now and then, they get impacted and need to be expressed manually. THe most common sign is a dog scootching across the floor on his butt. Other signs would be a very distinct odor, fluid leaking from the anus and in some cases, the anus will be swollen.
Make an appointment for the vet to have it done. Plan on having the dog bathed afterward as the smell is pretty bad and it will be on your dog. Some groomers will do anal glands too..check with your groomer.

Their poop hole itches. Nearly all dogs do that, that is nothing unusual, sort of funny too. It is also good to check his rectum and see if there are any little tiny white things on the outside of it, if so, take him to vet this could be worms. Otherwise, it is normal for a dog to drag his butt on the floor.

He may have worms. Check his "poop" after he goes and see if there's any worms in it. If not, it may be his anal glands. Call the vet and be sure to take him as soon as you can. You don't want him to get "infested" with worms (when there is a lot of worms in him and they eventually take over his body and can kill him) I hope this helps, good luck!

He probably needs his anal glands emptied. In order to do that on their own, dogs wipe their butts on the floor. It is hilarious to watch, my dog does it sometimes. You should just take him to the vet, he'll be fine.

Pixie is 100% correct. If it's all day, it's probably his anal glands in need of "expession", as they say. Take him to a vet real soon, not to do so is cruel and may lead to a serious infection.

1st, check his stools when he does his business, if nothing is in the stools, then the next thing is he is cleaning himself, their butts have glads that secrete a fluid to help keep their backside clean and soft ( came from our vet the other day)

He either has worms or he needs his anal glands emptied. Either one requires a visit to the vet.
