Delsym cough medicine works pretty well. Make sure it doesn't interact with any other medication you may be taking.

Drink enough fluids throughout the day to keep your mucous membranes moist. Have a glass of water next to your bed in case you wake up coughing.

Be sure your room isn't too warm, as that seems to make coughing at night worse. If you have a cool mist vaporizer, use it. Otherwise, set pans of water near your heat vents to help moisturize the air.

If your coughing continues to keep you up, your doctor can order you some cough syrup with codeine, which will calm an irritating cough.

Homeopathic medicine uses honey, swallow 2 tablespoons of raw honey( and they don't tell you it burns like whiskey). It works if it doesn't make your eyes water. Honey is an antibiotic and an antiseptic both. Kills germs by removing the water from them.
