Angus Young was brought up in Glasgow's east end in the area of Cranhill along with older brothers Malcolm Young and George Young. He started playing guitar when he was about five years old, a local kid had one and Angus would play it during visits. He got his own guitar by taking a banjo his family had lying around the house and re-stringing it like a guitar.
[edit] Early years
Young didn't really get into guitar-playing seriously until his early teens, after the Young family moved from Scotland to Australia in 1963 (as had AC/DC frontman Bon Scott in the 1950s). He got his first Gibson SG after seeing it in a friend's catalogue. Until then, he had been playing on an old Höfner guitar he inherited from his brother, Malcolm, after he got a new Gretsch Jet Firebird.[citation needed] Malcolm's brother George (of The Easybeats) would give them guitar lessons when he would come home during breaks from touring.
Prior to joining AC/DC, Young played in a local group called, 'Kentuckee' and also worked a part time job for an Australian soft-core pornographic magazine titled Ribald.[1]

Hi,
Yeah.. I know a fair bit actually.. I grew up hanging with his band members son.. and also met him..
There is a really good book out.. it's two inches thick and features Angus on the cover..
Basically what i can say is this.. he went to school in ASHFIELD in Sydney..
I can't really tell you any juicy stories though.. sorry.. just want to put Ashfield on the map.. as it needs to be.. lot of major talent sprouted from there around Sydney.. but so did a lot fo drugs and crime.. so it never got play.. the uniform Angus wears on stage.. which he made famous.. is an Ashfield Boys High school blazer..
Cheers

Born: March 31, 1955 (Although Atlantic Records changed his birth year to 1959 to make him appear younger) in Glasgow, Scotland. His family moved to Australia in the 1960s.
Angus is pretty much a self-taught guitarist (altough he never took guitar lessons as a boy, he is considered one of the best in the world). He started playing when he was nine and learned guitar solos by plucking aroun with his Gibson SG before he knew any chords! Angus likes the Gibson SG because of its horns. He thought it looked kind of devilish. Angus still plays his 1968 Gibson SG, it is as much his trademark as his schoolsuit.
Angus began wearing his school suit because many of the gigs he played before joining AC/DC would be right after school. If he went home to change, he would have missed the start of the show and his parents would have kept him home. By the suggestion of his older sister, Margaret, Angus wore it to an AC/DC gig as a joke about his appearance. People became so accustomed to seeing him in his school suit, so he left it in the act.
Angus loves to draw. He paints landscapes in his free time. The cartoon devil he draws is his logo. In fact, as a child, the only thing in school he took pleasure in was art, which allowed him some freedom of expression.
Angus Young lives up to his name by being as energetic and fun- loving as always. He even said that after Bon Scott's death in 1980 he felt "Horribly grown-up."
