When I went to my ultrasound they were conerned because my babys head was a few weeks bigger then it was suppose to be. I have tried to research this but have came up with little information. Has anyone else heard of this??? I go back for another on the 4th. Ive tried to ask questions with out demanding an answer and all I get back from the doctor is let us run more test before we worry. Well Im worried.

You might want to ask your caregiver more specific questions. For example: why is the baby's head size of any concern? You may have to be persistent in your questioning, as it sounds as if you have a caregiver that does not want to alarm you, but it is your right to know, should you want to. From what I understand, the doctors use the size of the fetal head and the ratio to the size of the abdomen to verify the age of the fetus, calculate due date and be sure the baby is developing as a "normal" baby should at that stage of development. When this ratio seems off the normal range, the doctors want to verify if the baby is getting the nutrition it needs, and if it is developing normally. If you ARE worried, you should have a complete conversation with your doctor, because you also want to avoid worry, and not knowing what you should be worrying about can be even more worrying. Talk it out and you'll probably find that it is just a precautionary check, but better to know than not to know. You might also want to read someone else's story at the link below.

im confused. Is there reason to worry? Is just the head bigger than normal or is everything more developed? If the baby is looking bigger than where you thought you were, maybe you are just further along than originally suspected. I know there is a lot to be worried about during pregnancy, i am a worrier too, but try and relax and have faith in your dr...he knows what he is doing. If you dont like your dr you can switch or at least get a second oppionion on the matter. For now stay calm and think positive, that is the best thing you can do for your baby right now. I hope everything works out ok ;)

Shelly, take a deep breth and relax. I know it's difficult but thats what is important. Yeah, sure you can DEMAND an answer but why. The doctor wants to run more tests THEN give you an answer. It makes more sense no matter how you look at it. He can at this point give you guesses which he can't give a solid answer to until he runs more tests. So instead of getting yourself all worked up over something that could be nothing you need to calm down. What could it be, something as simple as your due date is wrong, your baby is growing big and healthy those are the answers you want to hear. Stop looking for the negative answers and let the doctor do his job. Would you really be happy with your doctor if he answered you with guesses? There is no point in him giving you what could be false information

My bet is that you are farther along than you and the Dr. think you are. But you have every right to be demanding, this is stressful for you, which is not good for the baby either. It's your body and you are responsible for the life you carry right now, so don't feel bad about being demanding. The Dr. should be willing to answer any of your questions, and don't hesitate to get a second opinion or switch Dr.'s if you feel like you current Dr. isn't as forth-coming as you'd like him to be. He should at least tell you what might cause your baby's head to be bigger, even if it is too soon to worry. That way you can do research on any potential condition your baby might have. Good Luck to you.

hi there.

i have had so many problems with ultrasounds its not funny. with my first baby they were going 2 make her be born early as they said she was 2 small and not growing well i gave birth to her at 42 weeks without taking the doctors advice she was a health 7lb 14ounces girl.
next my second wee gal Alysia was born early at 20weeks not making it more than a hour because some bloody ultrasound etc said that my baby had a 5.2 mm nuro skin fold on her neck. so then i was made 2 have a amnio at 19weeks. results came back perfectly fine 5 days later :0 then due to the amnio i went into premature labour due 2 a infection in the placenta due 2 the needle on 14th august 2006
i am now 14 weeks pregnant after a scan result at 5.1days pregnant showed a ultra sound of a non viable pregnancy. well guess what I'm 15 weeks this Monday my baby's growing fine and i heard a beautiful heart beat yesterday of 152 beats a min.
AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED DO NT LISTEN DONT ACT ON IT YOUR BABY WILL BE JUST FINE.
I AM NEVER HAVING ANOTHER ULTRASOUND IF I CAN AVOID IT.
good luck you 2 will be fine :)

Well, you may just have your due date messed up. Better to be too big than too small. The doctor said you shouldn't be worried, so try not to worry. Your babies head starts growing before it's body, so maybe your baby will just be extra big. Relax, I'm sure it will work out okay. Maybe you should just call your doctor and ask what the possible explanations are for your babies big head. That way you can look it up. I've never heard of anyone with this problem before, sorry.

Have they considered the fact that you may be further along than they are saying? Maybe it is a big baby, but still go get another opinion if your doctor is not giving you the answers you need.
Yes, you have the right to DEMAND what you want to know, so DEMAND it.

It dont necessarily mean anything. My friend had a child thats head was further along then its body. Some babies just grow at different rates in different areas. My step-son had a big head but he was a big baby. Another thing is your age, if you are over 35 then thats probably why they want to run test. I'm sure its precautionary procedure. I find they do alot things at a precautionary procedure in pregnancy. Congrats and good luck..

Honestly I'd say don't stress too much, my brother had a really big head when my mom was pregnant and the doctors were really worried about it, but now my brother is just fine and his head is normal...but if you are experiencing pain then I suggest demanding an answer from your doctor. good luck

Honestly I don't know exactly what to tell you but a lot of times babies have big heads especially little boys. Just listen to the doctor he knows best. But I do have a question and I am not trying to be funny do you or his father have big heads?
