I was told it was goals + assists...but that is points i think, and could no way end up as a negative number which a lot of players have in this stat line. So idk ??

The +/- is a measure of the scoring that takes place while that player is on the ice.

If the player is on the ice when his team scores a goal, the player will get a +1. They get credit just for being on the ice.

If the player is on the ice when the other team scores, the player gets a -1.

Power Play goals scored by or against your team do not count for the statistic. Penalty goals also don't count in the statistic.

You total up all of these +1s and -1s and you get the +/- score for that player.

when a player is on the ice, a goal for their team is +1, and a goal for the other team is -1. The player doesn't even have to score any points to get a +.

if a player is killing a penalty and the other team scores a power play goal it doesn't count against that players +/-, because that wouldnt be an accurate stat that tells how good a player is offensively or defensivly, all the penalty killers would have minus and the powerplay line would have +'s.

its a very good stat to see if a player is not just good at offense, but also defense, which is often overlooked.

One gets a plus for each even strength goal on the ice for and a minus for each even strength and shorthanded goal against.

So fxdirect is basically right with the exception of shorthanded goals against. They are definitely a minus.

If you are shorthanded and the other team scores, there is NOT a -1 given to those on the ice. However, if you are on the PP and the other team scores, you get the -!. Otherwise I agree with the first answer given.

you only get a plus if you are on the ice when your team scores a goal even strength or short handed. you get a minus if the other team scores a goal short handed or even strength.

if the player is on the ice for his own team scoring his number goes up. if he is on the ice for the other team scoring his number goes down.
