Lets see, in your initial question, you ask if you put it on the inside or outside. But in details, you ask where to put the patch on the outside. What?? Okay, you will want to put it in the inside of the jean. Just follow directions that come with those iron on patches.
Or, if you want to do it on the outside, just do the same thing, exept on the outside. And a question, why would you get pants with a hole in the knee if you don't want it? Hope I helped you, with whatever you were asking

a patch goes on the outside but I would leave the hole - that ripped look is coming back in style. I just bought my hubby jeans from Express Men with little holes in them.

If you want it to be really strong, stick the lose part of the hole in and stitch it down after you fold it under then put the iron-on one patch on both sides iron them and then stitch them together along the outer edges. Should be good for a long long time.

You should put it outside but make sure it looks cool, not dorky.
