why don't more qb's get to call their own plays like peyton manning?

what makes him so special that he gets to call whatever the hell he wants?

Manning does not call his own plays. He gets two passing and one running play and decides which based on how the defense lines up.

Many QBs have that ability to "audible" but don't flap their arms and run around like a deranged chicken pre-snap.

Today the coach in the Press box talking to the Offensive co-ordinator supposedly has a better view than the players.

Back in the day (like Bob Griese in 1973) there was not as much use of radios to talk to a coach in the press box. (Radios were good enough,but it was either a case of "we always did it this way," or concern the other team would intercept or jam the signal.)

i think there are 3 reasons that more qb's don't call more:
1. peyton has been in the same offense and with the same offensive coordinator as well as marvin for his entire career
2. peyton is the face of his franchise and the owner, coaching staff, and the town trust him more than alot of other qbs...only other qb that is the same would be brady
3. peyton audibles alot but some of the time the audibles are fakes...he's just talking to make the defense think twice...

Coaches prefer to manage the offense with a game plan to keep their QB's from getting reckless which Peyton frequently does, especially in big games.

What makes him special is that his coach is of a defensive mindset, and trusts Peyton's uncanny ability to see the entire field and read defenses from the line of scrimmage.

Johnny U was the master at this.

I would covet that and not condemn it. If other QB s posted his kind of records maybe they would have more freedoms.

To call plays you need an IQ above 70, and most football players are functionally retarded.
