I don't think it is depressing, I just don't think it lives up to the hype once you get a little older. Getting shi* faced is no longer the most exciting experience there is, and therefore it takes a lot more than that to make new years exciting. In addition, anywhere you want to go on new years is packed, and 3 times as expensive as it usually is, so new years ends up being a time when you are extremely drunk, paid way too much money, and spent half the night waiting in line for the bathroom or trying to scream in order to talk to the person right next to you. Either that or you go to a house party, which is something you could do any weekend.

I've gotten depressed on New Year's before because my peers think I am crazy for staying home with my cats and just treating it like any other night. But now, I just figure that this is what I want to do. I don't understand why all the party and the hoopla. Furthermore, how do people find money for New Year's partying when I am usually completely broke a week after Christmas. I do try to reflect on my goals and resolutions for the upcoming year even though I will probably not keep those resolutions. But being hung over and nauseated on January 1 is not a good way to start off the new year.

Well, it doesn't depress me, no. It does seem a little foolish to end the year by getting so drunk that you're going to start the new one with a hangover.
A simple change in the date ain't going to make me a super hero when I've been pretty average for the last however many years.
On the other hand, parties can be good fun. It's all down to individual taste, really.
But I'm sorry it depresses you. Do you have any friends who feel the same way and with whom you could have a quiet cup of coffe and a chat before going to your early bed?

I think for a lot of people its letting go of whats been and having to start a whole new year with a bit of a worry on their shoulders that this next year is going to be the same again, as hard as it is its time to look forward and not back, whats done is done and whats been is going away, its a fresh start and time to be positive, hope you feel a bit better by new years day, all the best and may things be great for you in 2007.

I understand, I think there is just too much hype! But don't get caught up in it....have a nice day, today. Hey, turn on the TV and watch the Rose Parade, there are floats covered in roses, it's a lovely day in CA, blue sky, sunshine, and later, the Rose Bowl. Have something good to eat, smile and look forward to a year and thank God for all you have. You don't have to think like other people...or listen to commercials tell you what you should have to be happy. Just be glad for your health and that God loves you...and look forward to what He will do for you in 2007. Everything will be just fine.

I think it all depends on your age. Diffent ages find diffent things about New Year's Eve to be happy about, such as:
• When you're a kid- " Cool! I can stay up all the way to midnight!"
• Teens and 20's - "Cool! I get to party all night long!"
• 30's ,40's, 50's - " Cool- I don't have to work tomorrow."
• 60's & 70's" -" Cool- free food and champagne!"
• 80's -"Cool- those damn 20 year olds that live next door are gone for the night- peace and quiet."
• 90's - " Cool- I was here for another year."

Compared to Christmas which is a joyous celebration during the month of Dec, New Year's is boring. So much decorating and planning goes into Christmas and for most ppl , New Years is staying up with a glass of booze and some cheese and crackers til midnight.

I agree 100%. I'm also usually in bed by about 11ish just to avoid having to pretend to be happy. Why stay up til midnight to wish everyone a happy new year when you can do it first thing in the morning? It's all overhyped.

I agree. New Years is depressing. I still go out and have a good time with my family and friends, but I still feel a twinge of sadness. It's saying good bye to one year filled with happy memories and then having a whole new year to face with who-knows-what in front of you. Sounds silly but I'm dreading the new year since my grandparents both passed away this year. I have many memories of them from this year and next year will hold none.
