I thought that the noose was placed at the back of the neck so that when the body falls the swing juts the head forward thus breaking the neck.

Placing the knot at the side would not have broke Saddams neck but strangled him you can see the bruise from the knot on his left cheek.
Why was there a peice of material put round his neck first before the rope?

The noose has to be placed behind the left ear so as when the person being hung is dropped , the 3rd&4th vertebrae are dislodged causing instant death. In Saddams case the hangmen were not up to the calibre of Pierrpoint. As for the material placed around his neck, it is very likely that they were afraid of decapitation occuring. It appears to be a botched job, and strangulation is more likely to have occured hence the blood which was witnessed on his face.

i think of that's the section that bothers maximum individuals. i exchange into bowled over to be certain that there are nonetheless 2 states interior the U. S. that supplies condemned inmates the alternative of putting. It basically seems fairly third international. Saddam exchange right into a ruthless dictator and deserved basically what he have been given - yet i do no longer desire to be certain it! Yuck. He killed hundreds of harmless people. His very own people at that. to no longer point out each and every of the folk he killed in Iran and Kuwait. He exchange into extra paranoid then Hitler and he mutually together with his secret police destroyed no longer in basic terms families yet entire villages of individuals. the secret police raped different halves in front of husbands, threw infants interior the air and shot them and tortured little ones - all in an attempt to get confessions of disloyalty to Saddam.

The rope is at the side so that it twists around to the back turning the neck quickly and unconsciousness is instant death occurs soon after. It may have been adjusted soon after that photo was taken too.

The rope was put on the side to break the neck and the spine. This method gives instant death.

Which ever way the noose was placed his neck would have broken.

The material is placed there so that the pressure of the rope does not severe his head apparently.

Nearly there.
The rope is put at the SIDE so the neck breaks and the cloth is to prevent marks on the neck.

Whoa, are you an expert executioner?
Try it round the other way!
To break a neck, you apply pressure to the side of the head forcing it to the side, and provide leverage to the neck on the opposite side to break the neck!
The scarf is to aid the movement of the rope, to stop it snagging on his skin.
If the noose was at the back, the head would tilt forward until the chin touched his chest, and he would choke!
And yes I am trained!

Putting the knott at the side rather than back makes the head jutt backwords, thus snapping the neck. This then causes death immediatley.

And even after all this people are not going to believe anything. Go to Iraq, observe the happiness among the good innocent people, and then tell me Saddam isn't dead.

No its at the side for it to break the neck properly, if it was behind he would shock rather than anything else. It was put around his neck so the rope would slide rather than rasp.
