My daughter is 10 weeks and she had a cough and stuffy/runny nose, the doctor said she may have dairy allergies, so i cut back my dairy intake, due to breastfeeding. Well she seemed to get better but i recently started her on formula (milk based) and she seems to be getting "sick" again. These are her only symptoms, no rash or diahreha or fussiness. I also have a 15 month old who has had a cold off and on for the past couple of months. Could my 10 week old be allergic to dairy or did she just catch a cold from her sister ? I just don't know whether it's nessacary to switch her to a soy based formula, or if I give her soy will I be able to tell if it helped? Or is this just a cold? I plan on calling her doctor after the holiday but I don't know what to do in the mean time? Thanks

If it's an allergic reaction is would cause gastrointestional upset (like diarrhea/constipation) & a rash would be present.

Sounds like she has a cold that may be hanging on, or she was reinfected by her sister. Are you still breastfeeding her? I would cut out all formulas and just stick to breastfeeding. It is the very best for a baby. Breastfeed exclusively for enough time to see if the cold goes away. If after a long time it does not, then maybe she should be switched to a soy based formula. I just find it hard to believe that a baby would be allergic to breastmilk. Good luck!

First off, I'm not a doctor. However, my gut instinct tells me it's just a cold. I would give it a little more time and see. You can also try lactose free formulas if you think it is a milk allergy. I would stay away from soy. If you research it on Google, you'll see what I mean. Good Luck!

if she has a food allergy to dairy products you would notice digestive problems... She would either have the runs or would be plugged up. All three of my children had milk allergies. If lactose intollerance is common in your family, give a lactose free formula a shot... it'll be a noticeable difference.

also, many babies get congested when teething. It could be that, especially if she's grumpy, too. give her something cool to chew on and see if she latches on to it...
