Buddy, seems like you need to get a game plan together. If you are working as a handyman now, I would suggest tht you learn some marketing techniques to pull in more cliental. Take an online calss at some college. Its easy, cheap, and you will get an idea of how to get more clients.
One place you can start is Real Estate agents. They sell homes and advise their clients to do fix up work before they put their property on the market. If your name is on their mind, they will tell their clients to contact you to do a couple things around the house to make it look better. You can also find your niche here if you wanted. Specializing in Getting Real Estate Ready for Sale.
If I were you I would get together the most important things a Real Estate Agent needs in terms of repairs and promote those things to the Agents. Its a surfire way to get more business.
And have a set price for everything you do. Be it, repairing windows might cost 50 bucks, Hanging doors - 150. Something like that. Just make sure you do a good job, and keep your prices competitive.

Sounds like you are stagnating. I would work on getting another job. They key is a well written resume. Be aggressive about changing your job situation. Also, are you blowing money unnecessarily? Keep track of your expenses, and cut out anything that you could do without (Starbucks, eating out, etc.) Save the money you would unnecessarily spend. Have a reasonable goal of saving, and then invest the money into something safe like a CD or 401K. What about your wife? Does she work? Is she working toward helping you in the financial situation, or is she a detriment? Sit down with her and have a serious heart to heart talk (if you haven't already) and tell her how you feel about the current financial situation. Also, put things in perspective. Life is not about how much you have, but about people and relationships. Concentrate on these relationships, they are what will help you endure and be happy. Hope this helps, and good luck!

Let your resume say what you say here and let potential employers know that you are older and more loyal and settled than any young punk fresh out of school with no experience. You may need professional help getting your resume to say this without offending anyone. As you can see here I get a little straight forward and people don't like that. You hvae to "schmooz or you lose". Well, I got super rich and retired at 42 so what others think does not have to matter. Being honest on a resume like you have been here is a bold step and I think it will work. Best of luck to you.

Part of the problem of the global economy is there is no more company-worker loyalty on either side. So what we as the workers have to do is either join a union job where we have some protection and/or keep our skills sharp and ourselves marketable.
I suggest sharpening your skills in an area that is needed in your area whether it be welding, electrical, construction and then putting your best foot forward.
Keep your head up. God has a plan for your life.
Good luck!

Why did this happen to you? You said you lowered your standards, but why?
I have been working my fingers to the bone and saving tons of money, but I don't have a husband or kids. I feel like I have missed out and it might be too late for me now. Why am I telling you this? Because you are still young and you have a wife and three kids. If you had that job once, you can have one like it again. We are all full of regrets. You aren't alone in that.
You'll figure it out. Pay yourself first when you start making money and save everything you can to catch up.

Have you considered going back to school to further your education? Maybe you could get a good paying job that is less physically demanding that way. You can earn accredited degrees online right from home now. Just an idea. Good Luck.

Unfortunately, allot of people who avoid paying their share of taxes think they are getting one over on the government. When I fell on my A%$ trying to become self employed I held two jobs to avoid bankruptcy. Suck it up and bear down, you have a family counting on you. The unemployment rate is worse then they are reporting. There is a light at the end of the tunnel.

I know of 2 online jobs that will help alittle and it is simple. They both pay you to refer others to them. 1 is a new search engine http://agloco.com/r/BBBL5769. 2 is a phone serive company that will pay you for referrals and also sales of there product. It is http://arhogs23.myld.net this is my website for this company, it is also free. These might make things alittle better for you. You can do these whenever you have a chance. Its not millions but every little bit helps.
