I would have to go with all the hormones interacting/sensing each other.
I used to work in a tight office space with about 5 women and my cycle lasted for weeks.

Yup I'm not sure either, but my sister once told me that there was a study conducted and it did show that women who are around each other often tend to have the same menstrual cycle, probably to hormones I suppose.
Based on personal experiences, yes that has happened to me and my sister and it was really coincidental and since we wanted to have our periods quickly as we were going travelling it was quite a relief.
Also she told me once that her group of friends and her once had their periods at the same time (not sure about now)

stuff of our extreme past! Keeping in with the Herd kind of stuff! Speaking of that I have heard of lady zoo keepers being attacked by female lions (and other big cats) by having the monthly due to being in "thier domain"!!!

i'm not sure why.....but it happens with all the girls i work with. also when i and another girl both got pregnant, the other girls had pregnancy symptoms and their periods were late lol
