...and Noel and the contestants refer to the Banker as though he's some kind of real being? They showed a clip of "him" at the end of the Christmas show. Cringe!

Yes, the hugging thing....as though the person opening the box possesses some kind of skill in order to do it. Grrrrr!

And yes, you can tell a mile off if that slimy Noel likes the contestant

All valid reasons as to why this could be the cheesiest, most cringeworthy program on TV.

reason 3: the power 5........get a grip its not a mystical force

reason 4: the kissing, hugging etc of contestants.... clearly they have all been groomed into some rule abiding cult

Definitely. How can a show based purely on chance create so much emotional intensity?
Deal or No Deal is a classic example of the 'dumbing down' of modern television. The premise of the show has been criticised for having no intellectual content whatsoever. Is it healthy that a show in which people simply randomly open 22 boxes to reveal numbers is so popular.
Other aspects are also creepy, contestants often talk about 'having a feeling' about a box when in reality it is a game of complete chance and the only influence that any player can have on the game is through their decisions whether or not to accept the Banker's offers.

The hugging thing really makes me cringe too - but I have to tell you, the Banker IS real. He is the series producer, & his name is Glenn Hugill. I've got a cutting from the Daily Mirror, dated 5 April 2006, & it's in there.

It really bugs me when they do the whole think positive thoughts for the right coloured number. It's pure chance, thinking won't change it. Also, the having the wisdom to take the deal or the courage to continue. Slimy Noel.

The whole thing is creepy. There is no skill involved, just pure greed. Sadly, they keep getting good ratings. TV programming is in a sad state of affairs.
