This happens even if you're not close to the person. I've also wondered if this occurs among women who interact online, solely. I have a couple online buddies that I've chatted with online for years, and it seems that this has happened with us.

Coincidence?

It is all about the hormones. There is a good website with an article from Mothering Magazine that explains how it happens, here is an excerpt from it:

"... Menstrual cycles respond to many subtle cues, and one of these is the ongoing presence of other women. Women who work closely together, or who live together, can set off each other's menstrual cycles.

It happens via pheromones-chemical substances that are secreted by the skin. According to Kim Smith, MD, at the Burlington Medical Center in Burlington, Iowa, "Evidence suggests that while a woman is menstruating, [her skin secretes pheromones,] which other women smell subliminally." Once their nasal receptors pick up the scent, the pheromones stimulate their endocrine systems, which then drive their menstrual cycles into a similar pattern...."

I don't know about over the phone, that doesn't seem possible if it requires the body to "smell" the hormones.

Well, inside households even of non-related females-cycles will tend to merge into same time frames. There have been experiments done where the participants were kept apart but were given patches to rub under their noses once-twice per day. The patches were either plain gauze or they had had another female with a different cycles sweat placed onto it. Within I believe 4 to 6 months all the women with the sweat laced patch were on track with the same cycle. This may go to animalistic pheramone sensing which would give an attracted male an option to breed with all the available sexually fertile females in a short "period" of time (sorry, I HAD to use that AWFUL pun!!).

once a month, a lady's body prepares for the prospect of reproducing by freeing an egg, if the egg is going unfertilized, this is flushed from her body in those pleasant few days and the approach starts over, evolution has not something to do with the kind of clothing except for using clothing for protection from the elements.....you should've slept in HS biology

I don't know why, but women's cycles tend to merge. While I was pregnant with my second child, 14 other women were pregnant on the second floor of our building- Harris Corporation. The second floor was very large, we didn't have direct contact with each other. We were all due about the same time, but in different months! It sure was fun for all of us to go to lunch together!
