My 6 week old is exclusivly breastfed.
I know GA state law says:
15-12-1 G
15-12-1.
(3) Notwithstanding paragraph (1) of this subsection, any person who is the primary caregiver having active care and custody of a child under four years of age, who executes an affidavit on a form provided by the court stating that such person is the primary caregiver having active care and custody of a child under four years of age and stating that such person has no reasonably available alternative child care, and who requests to be excused or deferred shall be excused or deferred from jury duty. It shall be the duty of the court to provide affidavits for the purpose of this subsection.

Anyone have personal expereince getting excused from jury duty in GA because you were breastfeeding?

I am a SAHM
I don't have (nor can I afford) a pump good enough to pump enough milk for even a day.
And actuallyin GA I am protected by law to be able to breastfeed my child where ever I am so long as me and baby both have aright to be there--there is nothing anyone can do.

Contact La Leche League in your area (a breastfeeding support group of International standing). They have TONS of experience in this situation. I have attached the link to their article on "Jury Duty" in regards to the breastfeeding mother. Contact them.

As the mother of 4... I often would answer that I am a breastfeeding mother and for physical reasons of BOTH mother & child... I'd be quite willing to attend as long as my baby came with me. I was always given a deferment.

The law says yes! I'm not from Georgia, but I have been excused from jury duty (once or twice, can't remember) because I had a young child. I was a breastfeeding mom, but they don't ask for those details.

They might excuse you although they would probably expect you to express out enough milk to last the day and assign you to a trial where you would not be sequestered. DZE's suggestion is good but make sure you are doing it to feed the child and be prepared for a contempt of court charge.

According to this site, yes. Note the wording "whose health and/or safety would be jeopardized by their absence for jury service." That sounds like it would qualify.

Breast pump. Just pump out some bottles for the baby and go to the jury selection. You can them plead your mammaries to the judge.

I am sure the judge will delay your duty till the feeding situation is changed.
