I follow basketball alot but it's been awhile since I played in any organized hoops. Anyways, they also say Phil Jackson is known for running the Triangle Offense but I've never ever heard anyone explain what exactly this means. I understand all the rest of basketball and even football offensive schemes but the Triangle. How's it different from other offenses and why is Phil Jackson the only one who seems to use it. I mean he won 9 NBA titles so why isn't it copied elsewhere. I guess that's another question.

The triangle offense, also nown as the triple-post offense, really is much to complicated to explain simply.

A primary feature of the offense is the sideline triangle created between the center, who stands at the low post; the forward, at the wing, and the guard at the corner. The team's other guard stands at the top of the key and the weak-side forward is on the weak-side high post, forming the "two-man game."

The goal of the offense is to fill those five spots, creating good spacing between players and allowing each player to pass the ball to his teammates. Every pass and cut has a purpose and good ball movement is key to the offense. Played well, the offense gives each player a good opportunity to score.

The triangle offense is a complicated and time consuming offense to learn. One reason why you don't see a lot of mid-season trades with Phil Jackson teams is because he doens't hink a player can come to one of his teams and learn the offense quickly enough to be effective. That's one reason why you don't see a lot of teams running it.

There are a lot of articles about the triangle offense online. You can check them out:

There's also an episode of FSNs show "In My Own Words" where Phil explains the offense. It's on Youtude in several parts and it explains things well.

I'll see what I can do for you, when my high school basketball coach changed when I was a sophomore he brought it in, it's a little complicated to explain if you can't see it but i'll do my best. Actually on secon thought there are too many different ways you can run it, but it pretty much is based off of a rotation of the post players down low and when you move the ball the entire formation rotates and the relation between the post players and the wingmen look like a triangle. Here's a link that can better describe it.

Well the Triangle offense is very, very complicated to explain. But you can search it on wikipedia and it will explain everything to you.
But the main reason in which other teams dont use the triangle offense is because it takes a long time to learn it, and at the same time it can be quite complicated to perform. Not just that but if a coach decides to learn it, its going to take him a long time to know it inside and out, and most likely it will turn out into a complete fiasco if it doesnt work.
