One of the best things that will help you is alternating cold and hot packs, about 20 minutes each. Cold packs will help the swelling and hot packs help to reduce the pain. If this is a little difficult because of your lifestlyle, I would recommend heat over cold. If you have pain, two of the best reducers for reachable pain (sometimes, people have pain that is unreachable with medication such as in their extreme lower part of their spine due to an extreme curvature) are OTC Advil (you can take 2 3x per day) or Aleve (up to 3 pills in 24 hrs. as needed).

The best way to treat a swollen knee due to injuries or overuse is to follow the RICE System:
Rest your swollen knee.
Ice your swollen knee.
Compress your swollen knee.
Elevate your swollen knee.
If you’re looking for leg elevators or leg cushions to more easily get your swollen knees and legs elevated, click here.
Other ways to treat swollen knees include:
Using a knee wrap, knee sleeve, or other knee support to stabilize the joint and provide compression. You can find knee wraps for a swollen knee right here at FootSmart.
Heat therapy or massages can help stimulate circulation in the area to treat painful, swollen knees and promote healing.
Use a product like Angora Wool Knee Supports on your swollen knee, for example.
Stretch the quadriceps muscles and hamstrings to help ease and prevent painful, swollen knees.
If you have knee arthritis, physical therapy is important for the rehabilitation and management of painful, swollen knees.

The best thing to do is get off your feet and soak feet in warm, but not hot, water with Epsom salts till the water gets cold. After the soak, elevate your feet--toes above nose--on a pillow or two. Are you being careful about salt intake?

See a doctor!! Swelling in the legs can be a sign of heart problems. Even though it doesn't sound serious it could be. Better to be safe than sorry!

I'm an experienced osteological doctor and when my female patients experience systoms like yours, i advise them to give some *** up every one in a while, which in return reduces the tension on your knees.

Are you a fatty, or a diabetic? If so lose weight and check with your naturalpathic doc for recommendations. A couple I know of are chromium and lymph cleanse.
