In reference to Xtrobe: 8 bits is a byte, 4 bits is a nibble.

What you are asking is basic mathematically quantities related to the Base 2 system. We normally count in Base 10. The quantities however are still related to the Base 10 system all accept the quantities called bit, byte or nibble.

A bit is basically related to one data input on a microchip. When you have 4 bits or 4 data lines this is termed a nibble. Increasing this to 8 bits or 8 data lines and the result is a byte.

Now since we have to keep a relationship between the Base 2 system and Base 10 system, 1024 bytes relates to 1 kilobyte or 1 kB.

Most references leave out 1024 and simply use 1000. The rest is just simply mathematical quantities.

1 MB = 1 million bytes
1 GB = 1 billion bytes
1 TB = 1 trillion bytes

Bytes are just what computers run on...I use to be like you too and try to figure out what it means....
1KB=1024 bytes
1MB=1024 KB KB means Kilo Bytes
1GB=1024 MB MB means Mega Bytes
1TB= 1024 GB GB means Giga Bytes
TB means Tera bytes

GB's are what most harddrive sizes hold now....1 song on your computer is like atleast 3 MB which would take like 1024 MB to equal 1 GB...so 1 GB would hold atleast 300 so songs...hope this was any help...

These are tricky because of you don't maintain the case it could be referring to either bits or bytes. Normally when discussing network transfer speeds the b is lowercase and refers to bits. When discussing drive or memory space it refers to bytes and is a capital B.

lower case b conversions are the easiest. 1 mb = 1000kb = 1000000 b.

uppercase b conversions are trickier. 1mB = 1024 kB = 1048576 B

hmm... let me explain u in a easier way..
4bits = 1Byte
1024Bytes = 1 kilobyte or 1 kb
1024kb = 1Megabyte or mb
1024mb = 1 Gb or gigabyte
1024gb = 1 Tb or terabyte.. and so on...... :)

1 petabyte(PB) is equal to 1024 terabyte(TB).1 terabyte(TB) is equal to 1024 gigabytes(GB). 1 gigabyte(GB) is equal to 1024 megabytes(MB). 1 megabyte(MB) is equal to 1024 kilobytes(KB). 1 kilobyte(KB) is equal to 1024 bytes(B). 1 byte is 8 bits.
