how long do you read something before you give up on it?

i am a big fan of jeffery deaver books,
this is the 21 book i read of his

II try and finish a book once started but after a few chapters i know if it's my kind of book. J D's The vanished(ing) man was excellent.

I never give Deaver very long ;)
I'm not much of a fan. I suppose the amount of time I give a book before I give up varies, if it's something that has good reviews and which people encourage me to read I'll persevere as much as I can,
otherwise I reckon there are too many good books out there to waste too much time on one you aren't enjoying..

I LUUUUUUUUUURVE Jeffery Deaver, but hey, if you are not hooked after first couple of chapters I would give up.

I normally give it a few chapters, depends on the author I guess

There is better use for your time, I think. Amazon reviews on this book are lukewarm, at best:

if i cant get into a book by about the first chapter i give up, sometimes its only a few pages!! reading the new James Herbert book, its really good
