The are not keeping anyone down if you want your rights vote for those that promise it . Welcome to the republic., this questions very annoying. Grow up . Who cares. This is Not Even according to the founding fathers Dreams they would of hanged queers. Back in the 1770's The Black were supposed to remain segregated.. But white woman should have all the Rights white men do except to tun for any political office.

Check your history. Abraham Lincoln was a Republican. He issued the Emancipation Proclamation. When the Civil Rights Act was up for debate in Congress, it was Democrats who fought it hardest.

It's not "Republicans"; it's conservatives in general, and it's not only in the U.S.
I think, and I hope, that homosexuals represent the last frontier of government interference with civil rights. After anti-gay laws are struck down, perhaps there won't be any other groups to oppress.
(BTW, I think oppression of women went on just a little longer than oppression of black people...for most of human history, say.)
