First off DO NOT do a system restore, you can spread the virus to the restore section and all through your computer depending on what virus it is. You need to get the name of the virus, look it up on one of the virus sites and read about it to know what area it affects, then you need to install an antivirus program to get rid of it, do you have one on your computer, I'm thinking you do since you know you have a virus, so remove your current program, reinstall it, usually they let you run a prescan to tell if you have virus before you install the program, run the prescan and quarantine it, do the virus updates because there will be some of them since you first time installed it, then run the antivirus again and it should let you clean and delete it.

Download the AVG Free Trial version. It's the best AntiVirus removal program, in my opinion. It has a 'scheduler' so that you can set a time for it to scan your computer for viruses on a regular basis. The latest, newest version is 7.5. There is also an antispyware program there that you can download also - and that's also free.

most virus are spread through IE. IE is not a safe browser. you should use a more secure browser to protect your PC from virus.
i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can block any any popup and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE browser. as you know, most of virus spread throught internet and webpage.
besides, firefox is much smaller than IE, so it run faster than IE.
download firefox for free, Just have a try:
