i have been collectiong coins now for 10 years, my grandfather got me into it. only recently has my collection matured to some real value instead of consisting of everyday pocket change. and ive got a little of everything from pennies to dollars, im inot legal tendar only no commemratives, but i do collect american eagles

but heres my question, with the introduction of the Susan B Anthony & (SBA) in 79 it ran for three years before it was dropped as a failier, then in 2000 the Sacagewea $ (gold dollar, for collor not metal), now the mint has introdused a new dollar coin series to begin next year the Presidential coin series with four coins realeased each year in the order of presidents, starting with washington of course. now my question is with 2 previous $ coins released for circulation and both failing in public but not collectors, will this new one be a flop and with it looking like a medal not a coin will any one collect it, i dont think i will. heres a link to it

Susan B. A. was also released in 1999. : )

The new presidential dollars will be just like the S.B.A. and the Sac. "FAILURES," The public does not like these coins due to the till drawers not having space for another coin in our everyday cash register operations.

The government makes loads of money off us collectors hoarding these types of coins. They are happy whether we use them or hoard them.

The only place where these dollars actually go over are on the east coast where the majority of them are used on the rails / tubes. One reason the 1999 S.B.A. is harder to find.

I will be getting rolls of the new presidential dollars and putting away. I also get rolls of any new coins and package them for gift giving and for tipping in restaurants, so to possibly spark the "collector" in others.

Glad to hear you have a few years into it. Keep collecting and enjoying it! I have a passion for coins and currency from ALL countries!

The dollar coins were flops with the general public because the U.S. government is to chicken, to discontinue the dollar bill. In Canada you use the loonie one dollar coin or the 2 dollar coin, or you use nothing. There are no one or two dollar notes. Australia and the UK have done the same, no notes. As for the new one dollar president coins with lettering on the sides like our old bust 1/2 dollars, there will probably be a lot of errors or at lest differences, due to the method used. The method for the proofs are different so less types will show up. This will cause collectors to collect them and people that just collected the state quarters may also go for them. As long as there is a one dollar note forget people using them in commerce. many countries have dropped printing small denomination notes and use coins. Coins usually last at least 25 years and notes from 6 to 18 months. We through away millions of dollars printing one dollar bills to make the people happy. They don't seem to remember it is their tax dollars being throw away. I will collect it but only in mint and proof sets.
