Hello. These formulas are essentially exactly the same, with the same ingredients. The reason that they taste slightly different from each other and are a different colour is as a result of the manufacturing process. The ready made formula reaches such high temperatures during manufacture that the lactose actually begins the digestion process, with the result that the ready made is a little easier for your baby to digest and tastes a little sweeter. Ready made is not really easier to use as with the powdered version you may prepare several bottles of previously boiled water in advance, store these somewhere out of the way, probably on a surface in the kitchen - and pre measure the powder into little plastic containers that are available in Boots or Mothercare. Then, when your baby needs a feed you tip the powder into the water, shake for a few seconds and - hey presto - you are ready to feed your baby. A convenient way to make a bottle when you are out - just take the bottles of water with you and the powder - and mix when necessary. This water will remain sterile in the bottles, at room temperature, for 24 hours. Hope this all helps! Have fun with your baby, treasure every moment - they grow up too quickly.

Ready Made Baby Milk

Brittany, I know you're smarter than this. Powdered formula needs to be mixed with water and ready to feed is already mixed with water. No, there is no significant nutritional difference between the too, unless for some reason the water source used to make powdered formula is really horrible and gross. Ready to feed is just more convenient, though much more expensive. We used powdered formula because it was cheaper. I don't really think ready to feed is easier since it requires hauling around all of the 'ready to feed' formula in a diaper bag, bottles and all.

Sma Cartons

Hi there!

I've found that my babies never liked the ready made milk. It does have a slightly different taste than the powder milk, a bit like the difference between fresh cream and mock cream. I don't believe there is any nutritional difference. Hope this helps.

I'm not sure what the difference was between powder and ready-made.... But my children all three had severe milk allergies and colic... I had to try out all the various soy formulas (they didn't have lactose free milk formula then!) until I found one that would work for them. With all three of my kids, ready-made was what they needed.. Even with the same brand, their little tummies couldn't handle the powdered formula... but the liquid concentrate was fine.

They are both forms of man made formula which is inferior to breast milk. Why on earth would you want to feed your baby an EXPENSIVE, inconvenient, messy, complicated formula when your body makes the perfect, vastly superior way to feed your baby? Compare all the trouble and expense you have to go to buying formula and bottles and then making the junk up and mixing it and putting it in bottles (which you have to sterilize) with rubber nipples (which also have to be sterile) and getting it the right temperature....whew!....or, open up your shirt and pick up your baby. Wow....that is really a difficult decision! Add to that the fact that breastmilk is so far superior that even the formula makers will tell you that breastfeeding is the best thing for your child, but that if for some reason you can not breast feed, they offer formula. Unless you have some serious medical reason why you cannot nurse your baby there is no excuse to bottle feed. Even if you cannot nurse your baby the full amount of time, please let your baby have the colostrum that your body produces in the first few days before your real milk comes in. The colostrum contains all the antibodies that you have attained in your lifetime. This will prevent your baby from getting sick and if you continue to nurse him he will not get sick during that time too. Colostrum is the perfect first food for your baby and even scientists have not been able to duplicate or create anything similiar. So please, for your baby's sake at least nurse them for the first week so that your baby can get the benefit of your magical colostrum. You have something very precious that only YOU can give your baby. Please think about it.
Good luck and Blessings

The ready made milk can be more convienant, at times, but it's more expensive too. There's not really much of a difference. I would have to wonder what was put in the milk to keep it fresh. They have to use some sort of perservitive. Other than that, it's personal preferance. I always used powder. You don't have to worry about it spoiling once you open it. You heat your water, from room temp. not 40 degrees, so it's faster, if you ask me.

Hope this helps

They are basically the same, but the ready made stuff has been heat-treated to prolong its shelf life. This does something to the lactose in the milk, turning a little of it into something like lactulose (it is still very safe for your baby). If you baby is constipated you may find the ready made stuff helps to alleviate the problem.

sma powder only lasts for 24 hours once made up, but cartons last years unopened. cartons may be more costly but during the night they're a godsend!
