Ah, I should have said. I'm based in England.

Over here, we have law as an undergraduate degree.

I am thinking about going on to be a law academic.

I don't think that there is a PhD in law.

The legal degrees are ---

(1) JD - Enables you to take the bar and practice as a lawyer
(2) LLM - Masters in Law - An advanced degree in a particular area of law (like LLM in Enviromental Law)
(3) SJD - Doctor of Law

You can get a PhD in Criminal Justice or Criminology
