A female writer is just a writer, generic. A feminist writer, who could technically be man or woman, writes to forward the cause in some way, even through fiction.

The difference between the two is enormous. A feminist writer in my opinion, writes about strong women while downplaying the contributions that man has to offer. They focus on women being held back by "the man", and how they are treated unfairly, without perhaps examining the fact that there are many men who are treated unfairly as well. Male, female, black, white, it doesn't seem to matter, we all have our issues with what is fair and unfair. Now a female writer is exactly that, a writer who happens to be a woman, nothing less nothing more.

A female writer is simply a woman who is a writer. A Feminist writer is a writer who espouses feminist ideals, visions and programs. Femaleness is a sex category. Femininity is a social construct. Feminism is a body of theoretical postulations that espouse feminist/women courses in society. Not all female writers are feminist ones. And some male writer are feminist writers.Female/male are sex divisions of the sexes. Man/woman are gender divisions. Gender divisions are learned, sex divisions are more-o-less natural/biological. A woman can develop mammary glands, a man does not (although we know these are now possible).
Heed Simone de Beauvoir quote: One is born female but becomes woman.
That explains it all, sex differences are deployed by societal demands to create woman from the female sex.
Emily Dickinson was a female writer but not quite a feminist poet. Bell Hooks is a feminist writer, same as Anzaldua . . . who is also a lesbian writer like Audre Lorde before her! Harriet Beecher Stowe was never a feminist writer but Adrienne Rich is. Still, Faulkner was not a feminist writer but Kittler is. Its not simply again the earlier versus the modern Newt Gingrich is not a feminist but Bill Clinton, grudgingly and arguably is.Am not sure about the two Bushes, father and son, but I guess they are not. This is a debate that can go on and on!! For simple differences, refer to the above examples.
