Treat them like any spoiled child who thinks they are right - but they are NOT!
I hope their son is not like them...
Just ignore them when possible and have a good debate with them when it is needed.
Good luck...! ; )

Judging from all the responses your question has ellicited, it seems to me that this country has alot more to be worried about than in-laws. How dare we refer to each other as "loud mouthed liberal democrat", or "uptight morally right Republican".
I would hope that with all the events of the past years, we need to understand that this country will not and cannot run successfully unless we drop all those labels and work together. No wonder other countries hate us..we hate each other!
None of us have the moral superiority that seems to be thrown around at such increasing rates. Both "sides" have had their issues, and mistakes. Neither side is blameless.
When we all decide to put down the swords, and bring peace and a willingness to work together to solve the problems we all helped create, maybe, just maybe, we'll find our country in a better spot and other countries will look upon us with honor instead of hatred.
But, then again, it's always easier to blame the other guy isn't it. Be kind to each other, after all, we're all we've got.

Same way I deal with my obnoxious rightwing self righteous inlaws.
Nod and smile and remember that there is a place and time for politics and around the Christmas dinner table at your inlaws is not that place.
Incidentally, the only thing I am not crazy about in my inlaws is their political and religious beliefs.
Be a strong person and realize that just because you don't agree with someone on everything you can still enjoy their company and friendship.

Educate yourself. (Not from the talking heads on TV who suffer from delusions of grandeur)
Think outside of the confinement of republican vs. democrat. Your in-laws can't be that bad if they raised someone you love. What can you AGREE on?
Always LISTEN to and PROCESS all sides of an argument. DO NOT regurgitate what you hear.
Explore and define your OWN BELIEF SYSTEM outside of any organization and adhere to it. Only then will others respect your views.
Before you judge them examine what your in-laws are actually saying and how exactly you differ from them.
Is it that you don't like what they are saying or is it just what podium they are saying it from?
If we took the time to really listen to each other, our common ground would be much more evident.

With reason. Explain to them how the republican party is the moral fiber that holds this country together, trying not to touch on the fact that four republicans were disgraced in the past year and one is serving jail time. Point out to them the fiscal responsibility of the republican party, again avoiding any mention of the skyrocketing debt from our liberation of Iraq. Tell them our President is a compassionate conservative protecting all of the citizens of America, just don't mention our southern border or the fact he doesn't listen to anyone who does not agree with him. I'm sure with the gentle touch of republican reasoning you can convince them of their short-sightedness and wrong thinking.

My immediate family is far more conservative than most of my relatives. And they just love to show my family just how wrong we are. I usually don't bite at their provocations and just focus on how, like it or not, they are relatives and in-laws. It seems to work quite well. You can usually sense when a conversation takes a turn towards the political and it's then you need to redirect the conversation to something else. And remember, by showing maturity simply demonstrates the overwhelming superiority of conservatives!

Refuse to discuss politics with them. Just politely agree to disagree.
That is the only logical thing to do here unless you have an open enough mind to actually challenge your beliefs and listen to what they have to say and it sounds like you don't.
Just tell them you don't want to argue and change the subject to something else.

If they are anything like my family all they can do is name call, and make fun. Right.
Just talk about what the two parties stand for.
Ask why they believe in killing babies, giving money to those who are lazy, allowing animal rights, demoralizing the troops, and tolerating gays?
