All women have a gene that's activated when they have small children, that forces them to talk about their children's losing an eye, or poking their eye out.
Is that what you're looking for?
It didn't "come from" anywhere; it's just a time-honored expression used when kids get rambunctious.

I think it was from the movie; A Christmas Story, when Ralphie asked Santa fro a Red Rider BB Gun and he said "Look kid, you'll shot your eye out". Just Kidding, but was hoping for a laugh.

It has actually been passed down for centuries and it was a housewifes phrase to the kids who were swordfighting with sticks until one boy hit the other in the eye and they actually lost the eye. I have heard thats what it is from.

I don't know, but I like this one better: "It's all fun and games until someone get's their eye poked out. Then it's hilarious!"

I think it is from years ago when BB guns first came out and they gave them to their kids to play with. I had some friends like that a few years ago that liked to go out in the woods and shoot each other. I don't know if kids do that any more.

It was coined by the man who, in a freak bowling incident, lost his eye.
No, actually I think that phrase has been around for awhile, so no one really knows. It IS good advice, however!
