I like many people have lent things out and never got them back. One thing I do remember lending out was something of my late mother in laws and it got broke. The people that borrowed it never told me they just stopped speaking to me. I did eventually ask for the item back only to be told they had broke it. Needles to say 15 years down the road and we still don't speak to each other. The worst thing about it all is we have just found out the said item would be worth £2000 or more know. I no longer loan things to anyone.

what have you lent to peeps an never got it back not including friends etc?
I thought at first you were saying what things have you lent out & not got back not including friends...but I realise you meant what things have you leant out to people, (not including friends) blah blah blah
2 questions
1. Why would you be lending stuff to people that aren't friends?
2. Can I borrow your car tonight?

I finally made a general rule... no loaning out.... Period.
After losing countless tools, movies, books, clothes and even having two cars returned to me beyond reasonable repair (and with nothing more than a "sorry"), I Do Not loan anything to anyone for any reason. They can use, watch or read here... If I cannot deliver, take or haul what they need a vehicle for, they must look for help elsewhere... Clothing is simply 'given' if the need is great.
It has made a few angry, but better a 'blanket' refusal than supplying the untrustworthy, or just plain thoughtless, with things they are unwilling to work for and purchase themselves.

I hate lending my things to be honest, whatever, books, anything, unless I know the person will take care of them like i would myself or give them back.
Some people are disgusting, and when they do give you back your things after you had to chase after them, Gosh, the state you get them back in!!!
Now, when I lend something, I make sure I'm ready to part with it; Or that there's a specific time for me to have it back, or i simply politely refuse.
Whatelse can you do?

Don't lend out your stuff unless you KNOW your going to get it back. You should know the person really well too and know where they live so you can go pick it up from them when you need it back. Don't just lend stuff out that's how you never get it back.

Lent $20 to an acquaintance that I didn't particularly like. After a few weeks he hadn't paid me back and I started asking him about it whenever I saw him... go figure he started avoiding me. Eventually I figured it cost me $20 to rid my life of an annoying person. Fair trade.

I know the feeling... we're forever lending stuff and never get it back.... and if we do its never in the same condition as when you leant it. What is even more frustrating is... when you go to use the thing that you've leant and its not there cos the person you've leant it to hasn't given it back, so you have to go and get it..... SOOOOO annoying!!!

Yes, happens all the time. What I do is avoid letting them borrow anything...especially if they are known for not returning things in the past. 2nd I always try to do a trade/borrow...if they are borrowing something of mine i.e. a dvd then I borrow a dvd of theirs that I think is of equal or greater value to me. That way if they want there stuff back they will have to return mine...and if they dont return it then I am not left empty handed

loads of stuff, that's why i no longer lend things to people. there are only 2 people who i trust with my stuff now, my brother and my best mate.
what i also hate is when people don't look after what you lend them. when you get cds back all scratched and with broken cases etc.
