you mean theory of evolution by natural selection.

The first says that the daughter-generation inherits the characteristics an organism has acquired during its lifetime. This theory is known today to be false. (Darwin believed in this. But we have to keep in mind that this was before Mendel's discoveries.)

The second one states, that evolution is based on the selection of certain traits of an organism. The selection consist in positive traits favorising procreation and negative ones inhibiting it. The traits aren't acquired during the organism's lifetime, but are inherited by the parents. (It's what is thought to be correct today. Almost all research in biology today, is based on this theory.)
