I am not saying the entire gay community but I do know a lot of gay black men cannont pick up dates at gay bars or are shunned from most gay events (except for the pride parade)

Never noticed that in my experience; I've been hit on by a few gay black guys in my time and all were really cool. And come to think of it I even hit on one or two myself. But I suppose some other cities may still harbour as much prejudice against blacks as they once did despite the civil rights movement.

I think this is a great example of passing the buck in the most hypocritical way non-black/hispanic gay men can.

There is an urge for less discrimination amongst gays, but when the term gays is used, we're quick to generalize on who the gays are. We take a mental snapshot of the lesbians by the wedding cake and the gay wedding planner and his partner the hair stylist (both white of course). Of course not everyone's picture is exactly like this but the point is the picture almost always excludes people like the drag queens, the S&M's, club twinks (except for the pride parade, apparently eye candy is good for activism) and finally non-white gays.

My personal take on this is that gay men want to put their best foot forward to obtain alot of the rights they're unfortunately denied. Sadly, the misconception is that these groups of people couldn't possibly represent the "wholesome" goodness of the community. There are a billion different dircetions you could go with this...maybe it's conforming to straight suburban America, perhaps there is some underlying racism (which is incredibly unfortunate), but I think it's safe to say that the explanations offered by Jon A. such as the taste of their skin have very little to do with it.

Often time people are racist or any -ist and don't realize it and members of any marginalized group are more likely to be unaware... I've noticed that even online you get a "no fats, femmes, or blacks... i'm not racist, it's just a preference"

... it's just as easy to discriminate against gender as race in this way

Perhaps the same reasons the rest of society is uneasy around black men sometimes. They have very poor PR.

All we see in media are thugs, rapists, murderers and trashy rap artists as role models. Couple that with the raging homophobia within the black community in general and you might touch on an answer.

Also, FYI, different races taste different...skin oils and such (don't be filthy). Black men taste funny to me...so I tend to stay with white men.
