No. He had to go. I realize it happened on a Muslim holiday and that upset a lot of people. I don't see why they couldn't have done it a day earlier or later though. Since traditionally, the Muslims pardon criminals or at least stay executions; I think it would have been a good idea to keep that tradition around. There is enough death and horror in the Arab community, so having a day of non-violence would have been a good idea.

As for me personally caring, no, because I'm not Muslim, but respect the rights of others to practice any religion they choose.

You can watch the video up to the point where he is hanged. They suddenly stop recording at that point. The video is clear and you can see him and the executioners in great detail.

They record again after the body is removed from the gallows. The video is poor quality and you cannot tell if it really is him or not. His face is covered with a cloth except for his nose and parts of his eyes.

Why did they stop the video before the actual execution when they had declared they would show it on TV?

Why is video so poor after he is removed from the gallows?

Why is so much of his face covered that you cannot see him well enough to identify him on TV?

What are the chances that is was really one of his look-alikes who was executed - one who was willing to sacrifice himself for his beliefs?

Someone as rich as Saddam would have easily made a deal with the government to "look the other way" as he left the country in exchange for all his wealth being left behind.

where have you been for the last twenty years. have you forgotten that he killed hundreds and thousends of men, women and children and wiped out entire family's.do you think people felt rotten when Hitler did the same thing sixty years ago. the only people i feel sorry for are the people who have suffered at the hands of that horrible sadistic person. spare a thought for the people that have had to live under his regime before it was brought down. i for one am glad that he is dead and i wish the Iraqis the best of luck and hope that everybody can slowly start to rebuild there lives and there country. i hope they catch the rest of the bstrds who are making life hell for so many decent people on this planet. lets make the world a safer place to live in because life is hard enough. i am a very relieved parent!

My husband is Muslim and I can tell you how he feels. First of all, neither of us believes in the death penalty. I used to, until I saw a documentary on it and it change my heart.

Second, Saddam was tried by his enemies. I know he was guilty of many crimes but he should have had a less biased trial, and it should have been outside of Iraq.

Third, this is the time of a huge Muslim holiday and it was disrespected by his execution. It could have waited, but those who killed him were reveling in their victory and new-found power. Christians would also be angry if someone was executed during their holidays.

We DO NOT support what Saddam did, but we both believe things could and should have been handled differently.

Regardless of the crime, I have a hard time accepting the death penalty.

That's normal : it's part of your humanity. Still, we also have something called "responsibility." It just isn't right to not do something about such blatant evil as he repeatedly proved willing & capable of. Napolean & Santa anna each came back to haunt their people after being let off rather lightly. What if someone murdered 1 or 2 dozen people over several years, and the authorities felt bad for him, let him out and he murdered someone you cared about? What if he were locked up with others and taught them all the tricks of the trade & influenced them so that one of them became the next mass murderer who went on to kill people you cared about? You see, too many people want "freedom" to do as they please without consequence. Also, if Saddam were simply imprisoned, Iraqis would be afraid to move forward for their nation, fearing that he would someday get out and go after whomever he pleased with a vengeance.
Yes, death is sad. Still, ... can there be a truly clear conscience any other way ?

nicely thinking Bin encumbered remains at great and Bush looks to have completely forgotten he change into ever after him, and that the united kingdom and US invaded Iraq with no strong reason, and that i do not subscribe with the 'eye for an eye fixed' idea without thinking what number threat free lives Bush and Blair have resulted of their warfare, the full idea of people taking yet another human's existence is somehow morally uncomfortable in 2006

I'm not Muslim but I do feel a bit bad because as an American with friends and family fighting this pointless war in Iraq, I seriously feel that his execution is NOT going to make things better, but much much WORSE. I feel bad as just a regular person too because I think they should have waited a bit longer, everything was so rushed, I don't even think he truly had a fair trial because everyone had such a biased opinion of him.

Not at all ,I wouldnt think the wives and children of all the men he murdered do either,an Iraqui man on here the other day said he used to put people to death in a plastic shredder feet first,he was pure evil.

Do you still feel a bit rotten?

l feel the death penalty should be there as a deterrent, and only to be used when all else fails. For those who believe in Hell, what can we do about that? It does say in the Bible that it is better to enter this world without an eye, limb, etc if they are going to cause one to sin, than to go to hell with all complete!
