...(remember them?) along with other American (and British) soldiers who decided to hide their fear of Iraq via violence and 'punishment' of their own on petty thieves etc. who used any which way to survive the macho inexperience of the Western boys & girls (who wanted to show the boys they also could play the game) in uniform, when in fact it was the only way they could cover their fear - like cornered cats and lash out...even though 75% their prisoners were as much 'terrorists' as Lynndie England (remember her also) was English.

Result? Soldiers were either jailed for what is called 'sh.it and a shave' (id est; anything between 6 and 18 months), while others were quietly demoted...result indeed!

As for Iraq - well...despite Saddam's passing away, it may be argued that it's the same as it ever was. We are ordered almost to remember Saddam's evil - but the 'power' of the West came not entirely with maturity or morals.

Yep, Cracker...some of us will respect the US soldiers who died - be it now or when it all started. But the US top draw...will they treat the fighters like Nixon (and even Ford's personnel) did after Vietnam?

I agree with you. We only know a fraction of what happened in Abu Ghraib. It's known that the inmates were raped, tortured, assaulted and even murdered. But after the US use of chemical weapons and cluster bombs on Iraqi civilians, nothing should be a shock.

Sadly, Saddam's execution has seen a Sunni response that includes 4 car bombs, killing at least 70 civilians.

6 American soldiers were killed a few hours ago too, making December the deadliest month for 3 years.

Instead of everyone lowering themselves to inhumane celebration of yet another death from the US campaign, why not show some respect to the 6 US soldiers that just died?

I was about to bypass your rant, but your casual use of Latin gained you a little respect in my mind.
The abuses by US soldiers at Abu Ghraib were shameful, but they were as nothing compared to actions carried out there in accordance with government policy under Saddam. Their actions were mild compared to what went on routinely under Saddam.
The US soldiers were acting against US policy and were punished. Doesn't this show a difference between Saddam's regime and ours? We try to stop the bad guys.
Unfortunately Saddam was not the only vicious person in Iraq, so the abuses are not over. But if thousands of ordinary Iraqis are willing to risk their lives to vote in a free election, to work for order and peace, I say they deserve our support.
Pax.
