I went through a speed camera on boxing day. I'm sure I wasn't speeding but when I'd driven through it I looked in my rear view mirror and saw it flash. At what point does it flash? If it was me speeding would I have been able to look back in my mirror and see it flash? Thanks x

There is a point a few feet before the camera. If you have not reduced your speed before this point, then the camera is set off. For example, there is speed camera just around the corner from our house. A few feet in front of the camera there are three white lines. All three are linked to the camera. It is the last line that alerts the camera if you are going too fast.

Make sense?

Do Speed Cameras Flash

The kind of cameras that flash from the front are more sophisticated. All the cameras flash twice to see what distance has been travelled between the flashes and at what speed. Most now use digital imaging. It seems very likely you will receive a fixed penalty notice - a fine of £60 and 3 points on your licence. The 30mph limit is there for a reason. A 5 year old child once ran in front of my car and I couldn't help hitting her. I was sticking to the 30 limit. She had only superficial injuries. If I had been ignoring the limit and doing 40, I would probably have that child's death on my conscience. Please stick to the limits at all times.

Not all cameras that flash are speed cameras, some photo junction jumpers. Others have no film or the local plods can't afford to develope film. See if you get a summons, just don't admit to anything. Remember you are innocent to proven guilty.Let them prove it. If more than one person is on the car insurance all the better. You can't possibly remember who was driving and you aren't because you could incriminate yourself. It works for errant plods and I should know!!!.

Good question, I've seen a flash in my mirror but never recieved a speeding notice, but the same thing happened to my friend and she did. Was there any cars behind you?

Yes you could see it flash but they are generally set at 10% above the speed limit to cover speedo discrepancies.

You should be safe....the flash sequence is so quick that you would not have seen it in your rear view mirror! It probably got someone else or it was having an eppi fit, which is not unheard of!

We have one locally that flashes everytime a bird flies past it!

normally there are 2 flashes so the police can determin if you have been speeding or not.
the second flash is the one you can see
if you belive you was not speeding then you should be ok.
some times it could be flashing another car though?
good luck
