I mean like Alice and Wonderland type of stuff? Trying to find a good book like that. :) Would like to hear what's the weirdest stuff you've read, like worst and best.

Also I've never actually read Lewis Carroll's books so a little insight on them would be helpful before I read them in case they're really bad. ;P

Eye of the Queen by Phillip Mann and Dinner at Deviant's Palace by Tim Powers are two of the weirdest books I've ever read and I read a LOT. Both are pretty good reads.

Worst weird read ever for me was Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. I don't mind crazy long books at all but GEEZ the story was awful and the writing bloated. Needed an edit of about 500 pages. It's one of those books a lot of snobs pretend they actually read in order to sound intellectual.

The amazing thing about weird books is that they are most always the ones you remember for a very long time. Lewis Carrolls books are hugely underrated but they are so cerebral that just about everyone misses how very poignant the messages are. They are incredible social commentary at its best. Just as with al truly great books, they leave vast space for the reader's mind to process the information long after you have read the last page. The Bible is just such a book. Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy is another example. Probably the strangest book I ever read is called Herr Nachtigal And The Satin Woman. It was quite old and came from a public library, and quite possibly out of print. It was worth pushing through the weirdness just because I have thought about it for over thirty years and the information in that little book was useful and relevant even to this day. Sometimes writers have to couch their messages in disguise or it would never be read. Science Fiction writing has always been eons ahead of its time, but the monstrously thoughtful words in them are very worth the time to read. "Weird books" are very surprisingly great writing, ofttimes.

I have the perfect series for you. I don't even know how to explain it. The first book is "The Eyre Affair" by Jasper Fford. There the Thursday Next (the main charecters name-yes I know weird). It's really actually amazing books. Thursday learns how to travel into books and meets charecters like Jane Eyre (obviously) and in other books of the series actually meets the Cheshire cat (from Alice and Wonderland). Also, there is this new book called "The Looking Glass Wars," which is Alice related. I personally haven't read it yet but it's on my list of things to read.

Half Asleep In Frog Pajamas, by Tom Robbins. I've read all of his books (and absolutely love them), but this one is the only one that I would call weird. I've tried to read it numerous times, and each time I have no idea what's happening or what it's about. The only thing I can really say about it is that it's JUST WEIRD.

Hmmm... some books in the Chronicles of Narnia series made me feel a little creeped out! It's usually those classic books that seem weird...
