We will be driving to Utah on New Year's Day from the LA area. Does anyone know about the traffic going North on I-15 toward Park City that day? Any advice or experience with this would be helpful in planning our departure.

15 south will definetly be jammed. 15 north could be jammed, but less likely. As an ex-resident, you can never count on traffic one way or another anywhere in Vegas. You will want to check for any roadwork on 15 north, and things could get ugly near the spaghetti bowl. If you are in LA, and don't mind waking up early, i would recommend getting up early so you can hit the spaghetti bowl before 9am.

If you hear that there might be work on 15 north, you may consider cutting east on the beltway (215) and taking that to 93 North and then taking that up. It's a little bit of a detour (about 10 miles) but if there is roadwork anywhere on 15 north, you will be glad you did.

Traffic should be very light going NORTH on I-15, so you should be okay.

On that day, you will probably notice a huge traffic jam going SOUTH on I-15 anywhere from the Cajon Pass to the CA/NV state line as everyone leaves Vegas (most of them fro LA) for New Years Eve and goes back to LA to get ready for work on Tuesday Morning.
