My brother has used it for a couple years now and it has helped him SO much. He now has almost no acne and it didn't take that long for it to start working, only a few weeks. Then you continue to use it and it keeps the acne away. I steal some from him when I'm breaking out! =]
The downside to Proactive is that it's pretty expensive, and from what the other answers say some people are allergic to it too. If you do have severe acne though I suggest you try the trial and see how it works for you! Good luck!

I can tell you the same thing I told another user. I like a lot of other people was "allergic" to Proactive... one of the many uncomfortable side effects of the treatment.
What follows is what I said verbatim to the other user:

proactive can also cause many uncomfortable side effects... I recommend witch hazel, it is a natural astringent that you can find where the rubbing alcohol is located at most stores.
I used to have a horrible case myself, and tried at least twenty expensive products, both over the counter like Neutrogena and Oxy, as well as prescriptions, and that astringent is the best so far. Also, don't overwash your face, I know it sounds odd considering oil makes for clogged pores which can lead to acne, but really, if you use soap on your face, it dries it out which can also cause breakouts. If you feel the need to wash your face daily, use a very mild soap, like baby soap. Also, try different makeups, some can cause your skin to have an allergic reaction, and others are so heavily oil based (regardless of what they say) that it clogs your pores before your day is even halfway over.
I hope I've been of some help.

My daughter used the Proactive products with much success but I found that you can purchase a facial wash at your local department store that is just as effective, if not more so, and 1/3 the price. The product is called Clean and Clear Continuous Control Acne Cleanser; it has the same active ingredients as the Proactive but at a higher level. I believe they also make it in Sensitive Skin formula. This product has worked great for my daughter. Hope this helps.

I have been using Proactiv for a year now--it works GREAT for me and I had really bad acne. If you want to test it out, just get the starter pack and use it for a month or so. The key is to use it day AND night religiously. If you decide you like it, I would also recommend that you purchase the Refining mask--it makes your skin feel like butter. Good luck.

No it does not work. Anything that involves a multi-step process is more harmful to your skin than good. Remember clear skin comes from the inside out. What you put in your body reflects what comes out of your pores. Eat a more natural diet, drink teas, & exfoliate with coffee grinds in the shower, & apply pure vitamin E to your skin afterwards. In no time, your skin will look & feel better. Remember, anything that is advertised as heavely as Proactive (I mean multi-million $$$ on spokesmen) is probably not what they claim. I used it & absolutely hated it@!

I've never had to use any skin products, I was lucky that way.
Until I was a grown up (middle age), I couldn't believe I was going through my skin adolescence.
A friend of mine was shopping for his son, who used the Proactive system & swears by it. I'm a new convert.
You need to also eat healthy & stay hydrated.

I work for the Guthy Renker company (that sells proactive) and it is a very popular product. We get thousands of customers who call everyday to reorder the product, so I have to assume it works pretty well, also we hardly ever get complaints. My mom has used it for years, too, and she has very clear skin, and she used to have horrible acne.

For some people it works and for some it doesn't. One of my friends tried it and her skin started getting all red and irritated and she broke out even more. But another person that I know tried it and for her it worked. It depends on various people and skintypes.
