The light on any electronic device affects the length of the battery. If you're watching videos, there's really nothing you can do but if you're listening to music, you can go to the settings and shorten the length of the backlight to less than 15 seconds, which is the default length.

Ah theres many ways that can make your battery last longer.
But first, when whatcing videos on the ipod video[30gb] your battery time is only gonna last you around 3 hours at the most. When listening to music only it should last around 12-14 hours yes. But here are some things that you can do to save battery life:
Brightness-try lowering the brightness.
Blacklit screen- lower the time the blacklight is on.
Let it "sleep when not using it"
Put the hold switch on while in pocket to stop it from pressing buttons.
If you have an eq[that edjust music to your preferences, turn that off.
If you tend to "swich" or push next/previous alot while doing songs, that takes it away becuase the hard drive has to get each song.
Basically, videos take the videos take away the battery the fastest, and the blacklit screen. So just charge it when you have the chance, and never let it ruin all the way out becuase it takes away from the batterys total life.[you can use those batterys for around 500 charge "cyces" which is fully charged, letting it all go and charging it again. Anyways goodluck and hope I helped....

to make the battery last longer, set the backlight timer to the shortest amount of time, watch less videos, and don't let your ipods battery drain all the way before charging it.

leave it in the drawer and get a zen vision. better screen quality, longer battery life(removable at that!), more music and movie options, more colors and better quality!
